Mad Siren

To the sound of W.A Mozart's Solo Piano Sonatas, Mad Siren follows a group of performers who devote themselves to transform from passive listeners of the famous 18th century melodies - to the very essence of music. By following the development of listening capabilities and sensitivity to one another's language, an additional layer of social context is added.

Mad Siren raises questions about the nature of fear and lack of understanding towards what is different. What are the boundaries between the tangible body and the abstract music? Where does the movement originate and where does it end? What is quiet? What is noise? What lies between?

"The musical score, which comprises several of Mozart's solo piano sonatas, might have tempted other choreographers to slavishly mimic its rhythm. But Cohen, a trained classical pianist, knew better. His movement was musical, but in surprising ways, with certain steps amplifying notes that might otherwise not have felt important." washington post
